Fire Supression
The York Beach Fire Department operates with an assortment of firefighting
apparatus. The fleet consists of 2 Pumpers, 1 Pumper/Tankers, 1 Aerial
Ladder Truck, 1 Rescue Truck, 1 Utility Pick-Up Truck and 1 ATV. Our fully
trained full-time personnel and volunteer firefighters are ready to handle
a wide variety of fire related calls. The Pumpers are equiped with 1000
gallons of water and an assortment of firefighting equipment, including
a thermal imaging camera that allows firefighters to see heat in a smoke
filled room, a gas meter that will detect toxic gasses like Carbon Monoxide,
Self Contained Breathing Apparatus with an integrated safety system for
firefighters in distress, as well as many other tools.
For the areas outside of the hydranted sections of town, the York Fire
Department has a Pumpter/Tanker truck that holds 2500 gallons of water.
This truck is also used for wildland firefighting.
Emergency Medical Services
The York Beach Fire Department is staffed with full-time and volunteer Firefighter/EMT's that are trained at the Basic Level. These firefighters work with York Ambulance in all emergency medical calls in the York Beach Fire District. Rescue 1 and Rescue 3 are stocked with an assortment of medical gear to assist in stabilizing a patient.
Vehicle Extrication and Rescue
Rescue 1 carries a small combination spreader/cutter extrication tool. With this tool we can extricate a patient who is trapped in vehicle.
Salvage & Loss Prevention
The York Beach Fire Department responds to a large number of incidents not involving fire or medical emergencies. Water can destroy almost everything in a home if not contained quickly. Durring the winter months when frozen pipes lead to water leaks, the York Beach Fire Department assists the public with stoping the leak and covering up personal items with tarps.
